The strange reality of President Trump denying the election results is that in the not-too-distant past, so did Democrats, and it went all the way to the Supreme Court (i.e. Al Gore). Does it do us any good to allow one party to use the full extent of the law in ensuring voting rights, but then call another manic and claim they are trying to tear apart our country? In reality, to fight for an election free of fraud is the most American thing one can do. Whether you agree with the man or not, he’s American. Is he not?
In Hendrick Hertzberg's book, Politics: Observations & Arguments, he writes about how former President Carter would go into countries not his own and put his life on the line “to promote free elections and expose rigged ones”, taking the message of an American right all over the world.
Terry McAuliffe, in his book, What a Party!, recalls his time during Bush’s presidency, going to anyone that would listen and proclaiming that Bush and his brother rigged the election in Flordia. Hertzberg recounts in his book, “..columns came after Al Gore finally let go the battle for the presidency after the Supreme Court delivered a verdict…” Democrats unashamedly held onto the presidency, not wanting to give it over to Bush. After the election, Bush supporters furiously lined up outside of the White House demanding Al Gore leave. Who knew we would find ourselves back here two presidents later but with a completely different outcome?
They say if you do not learn history you are sure to repeat it.
Recently, we saw Trump being banned from Colorado’s ballot and a New York politician working on a law to force Chick-fil-A, a private business, to open on Sundays.
Just remember, what you take away from the right, you also take away from the left, and what you take away from the left, you also take away from the right.
Hertzberg writes further in his book, “Weatherman kept control of national S.D.S only by flagrantly violating democratic procedures…The movement has been lax about violence.” Here, Hertzberg is reflecting on the hypocritical nature of an extreme leftist movement against the Vietnam War and many other things happening in the U.S. The social and political issues of that time were all being placed in one bowl and being mixed into one political movement. We see this happening now in 2023, unable to pick and choose without being labeled a “sell-out” or maybe even a “fascist”. Hertzberg writes further,
“Movement people who ought to know better have indulged in verbal overkill to the point where language–the basic tool for organizing reality into something that can be understood and acted upon–is no longer descriptive. Terms like “fascism,” “racism,” “genocide,” “police state,” and “oppressive” have been stripped of meaning. (When and if real fascism comes to this country, it seems we will have no words left to describe it.) The United States is a mess, but it is not, at this moment, a genocidal fascist police state. (Does a government have to be a genocidal fascist police state before we can rouse ourselves to oppose it?) When language is corrupted to the point where it becomes impossible to describe the difference between say, Nazi Germany and Imperial America, no one should be surprised that people begin to make “incorrect decisions.”
As we see from the past, the type of movement of the Weatherman does not last too long. “Weatherman (discovered) history has not chosen them to bring about the final triumph…” History is repeating. Weatherman even called for "Days of Rage" to wake up America...does that sound familiar to anyone? For all those wondering when will all of this stop, history tells us, sooner than later. Something I have always said, and was recently quoted by a TikToker, is “History is a calculator, if you want to know where we are going, put it into the calculator of History.”
Welcome Home.
If you are wondering what has happened to the world of politics and looking for the light at the end of the tunnel, then you have found your home here. We will go on this journey together, discovering the ups and downs of the political world, and working to find our way through. In return, we will spread the good news and bring others on this journey! We can’t keep this all to ourselves!! Our country depends on those who see a different way, to show a different way.
What’s Coming Next…
Continue on this journey next week with the next installment of Political Suicide: “Political suicide” is an unpopular action that is likely to cause significant harm to their reputation, electoral success, or power within their organization”.
